The Role

A Technical Lead demonstrates strong and consistent technical project leadership, client interaction and management skills across a range of client engagements. You will be managing and mentoring other technical team members both on individual projects, and as part of their long-term career development.

The Technical Lead should be competent in a broad array of web technologies and may specialise in ASP.NET, Flash, or HTML Development.

Reporting to the Head of Technology and working alongside other members of the Technology team, the Technical Lead will be responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of web and interactive based digital applications deployed on the internet.

Key Responsibilities of the Technical Lead

  • Lead the development and testing of robust and maintainable internet based applications for our clients.
  • Understand the goals and requirements for the development of media–rich applications using internet-based programming languages.
  • Ability to create appropriate architectures and specifications from client interactions
  • Working with other disciplines to ensure they understand the implications of effort, complexity, reliability, and scalability of any designed solutions.
  • Design and program suitable, intuitive user interfaces, menu systems, and information structures for web-based applications.
  • Lead the creation of Functional & Technical Specifications
  • Document appropriate aspects of an application’s development in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Provide accurate scope, sizing and resourcing needs for upcoming projects
  • Provide project management information and use appropriate metrics to measure aspects of application development in order to control development progress

The Person

  • Good knowledge of the process of interactive application development and support.
  • Sound experience in the development and implementation of interactive application systems in a variety of major client and complex technology environments; together with good experience in the use of development methodologies.
  • Demonstrated highly developed analytical, design, programming, problem solving and organisational skills.
  • Good understanding of the wider business concerns and impact of development activity upon commercial progress.
  • Willing to recommend and adapt to new tools and technologies.
  • Must have a successful employment history with current and past employers, preferably with digital agency experience within a large multi-discipline environment.
  • Degree educated in a computing related field is highly desirable.

The Web Developer Role:

 

As part of a team of 10 full-time developers, this is a hands-on development role working on an exciting variety of digitally-lead projects, including  website backend builds, HTML/CSS/javascript development, Facebook application builds, API integration, SMS integration and mobile applications.

Experience of Test/Behaviour Driven Development, continuous integration and the like is a significant benefit.

 

Further Responsibilities of the Web Developer:

  • Take an involvement in the full life-cycle of development projects, both as part of a wider team of developers, and where appropriate, as the sole developer
  • Production of frontend HTML/CSS templates
  • Production of javascript code to deliver rich interactive experiences in-browser
  • Take a pro-active and positive approach to providing solutions to technical problems
  • Participate in regular team meetings to discuss both wider movements in technology and to showcase recent Agency projects from a technology perspective
  • Help the wider business understand and make best use of technology opportunities
  • Work cohesively with the rest of the development team to ensure knowledge sharing, code reuse and the use of convention wherever possible
  • Stay at the cutting edge of technological developments

The Person:

  • Intimate knowledge of at least one of the following languages; PHP, Ruby on Rails or Python/Django
  • Skilled at writing good-quality, semantically correct HTML and supporting CSS
  • Experience of an off-the-shelf javascript framework (bonus points for jQuery)
  • Understanding of Object Oriented based architecture and programming
  • Understanding of software development processes, including the use of source control systems
  • A passion and interest in new and emerging technologies
  • An understanding of accessibility issues and how to structure work using progressive enhancement and graceful degradation to address these
  • Understanding of cross-browser compatibility
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines, in an often fast-paced, fast-turnaround environment
  • Self-starting, enthusiastic team-player who will be willing and able to help colleagues at peak-times
  • Experience of Test/Behaviour Driven Development, continuous integration and the like is a significant benefit.

Lead important pitch processes and build strong relationships with decision makers at new and existing clients.

Apply concepts in strategy, marketing, advertising, e-business, media, and brand management.

Keep abreast of industry trends, key players, terminology and overall economics of the marketplace.

Excellent negotiation experience (especially contract negotiations) with both clients and partners.

Deliver regular client reviews and business recommendations.

Build strong relationships within the client's organisation through quality work and thought leadership.

Ensures client approvals and sign-offs on all major deliverables.

Experience managing client teams of up to 30+ people.

Fosters cross disciplinary communications on all levels.

Identify additional revenue opportunities.

Lead and motivate large multi-disciplinary project teams.

Negotiate and resolve high level client issues.

Provides thought leadership, advocating agency philosophy both internally and

Externally.

 

The Person:

Proven experience at MD level ideally with a leading digital or integrated agency.

Track record of managing and motivating multidisciplinary teams.

Excellent negotiation experience (especially contract negotiations) with both 

clients and partners.

Experience with process definition and the ability to define solutions that will generate measurable results for the client.

Bachelors/MBA degree preferred, or equivalent work experience.
